Best of 2017 : Splits/Ep’s/Demo’s

Hi peeps, we start our best of 2017 with a round-up of the best split releases, EP’s and demo’s. I’ve been surprised by many releases this year, and in many ways, these were some of the most interesting releases I heard this year. The picture at the top is what I bought or got as a present this year. Do drugs kids, much cheaper.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

6. Cloud Rat/Moloch – Split

A really interesting release this one, mixing avant-grind (that’s a thing right?) on one side wth some thunderous doom/sludge, this was one of the most interesting releases of 2017 with the 2 bands showing why they are so highly regarded. Read the full review here. Released on Halo Of Flies.

5. Sinmara/Misþyrming – Split

Another masterclass by 2 of Icelands leading black metal bands. Read the full review here. Released on Terratur Possessions.

4. Slow Crush – Ease EP

Slow Crush do the heay shoegaze thing, and when done right, that’s a genre that will always have my love. Read the full review here. Self-released .

3. Amenra/Raketkanon/Michael Borremans

This release had it all: 2 of Belgium’s best bands, each contributing an unreleased song, with artwork by the great Michael Borremans. It did not disapoint, with each band seemingly reaching out to each other in their respective songs, this was a release that was equal to the hype. Released on Consouling Sounds.

2. Siberian Hell Sounds/Convulsing – Split

This release came out of nowhere, and blew my socks off. Siberian Hell Sounds song in particular. Mixing every heavy genre in the book into an anthem of epic proportions. A demonic entity has been summoned in Australia, and SHS and Convulsing are leading its army. Released on Art As Catharsis.

1. Cryptae – Cryptae

Just at the end of the year, this monstrous demo was released upon the world. Cryptae make earth shattering death metal, destroying all in its wake. A must have for any extreme music lover and a band to keep an eye out for. Released on Sentient Ruin.

So there you have it folks. My 6 favourite short(?) releases of 2017. Check them out, and support them in any way you can!
