Terraformer – Mineral

Terraformer are a 3 piece post metal band from Belgium. Now, I love post-metal/rock, so I’m kind of ashamed to say I wasn’t familiar with these guys, especially since they’re from my country. Thank God I’ve corrected that, because these guys really bring the heat.

The reason I really dig this album is simple: these guys don’t noodle. I really hate it when bands noodle. And with noodle I mean lack any sense of urgency or direction and just fill empty spaces with seemingly random noises. A lot of post bands do this, and I don’t like it one bit. Terraformer on the other hand, know exactly what they want to do : play epic, emotionally engaging instrumental music. And they pull that off easily.

In sound they remind me a lot of the sadly retired Omega Massif, all heavy, no filler, straight to your heart and head songs. The main reason they accomplish that is by getting a heavy groove started, and then the heavenly guitar solo’s get woven through. I really love this kind of music, I can’t stress it enough, and I was hooked from the get go. There’s no acoustic intro’s, no heavy drops midway through the song. It’s heavy stacked on heavy.

My favourite song is Aegaen. Because I fell in love with this band’s sound as soon as the first notes hit me. Sometimes it can be that easy.

Epic Belgian post-metal. Any questions? No? Then just go get this, this has gone beneath the radar sadly enough, and should be heard by far more people. Go get it in droves, right now!
