This album has been out for a while now, but I felt like I had to review it anyway. Why you ask? Because it’s one of my all time favourites. I have artwork from this band tattooed on my arm. It makes me feel invigorated. I have listened to it a hundred times, but I still feel the eager anticipation I did when I first put the album on.
It brings the apocalypse in a way bands like Amen Ra and Omega Massif do. Huge riffs, thunderous drums, a voice that seems to have seen evil itself. This is the sound of despair, the sound of the world ending, in one perfect album.Everything just works. Every song is unique in it’s own way, while staying cohesive. There are no breathing moments, there are no pauses so your mind can let evrything sink in. The music just crashes over you and there is nothing else to do but take it all in.
This is btw one of those releases you HAVE to have a physical copy off. I preordered the boxset, which included the cd, vinyl, a poster, artwork, some patches and a shirt. all beautifully designed, with attention to detail. It just adds a lot to the whole experience for me personally, so I’d suggest you pick up a copy from their label, Les Acteurs De L’Ombre, which has some other excellent releases aswell ( my favourites : The Great Old Ones, Wildernessking).
My favourite track has to be Embrace the Flames. Now, this album doesn’t have any bad tracks, but this one has a special place in my heart for several reasons.
One, it was the first track I heard from this album. They released it as a first teaser for the album, with a great youtube video that slowly reveals the album art. I still remember exactly when I first saw it. It got my heart racing. I was hyped from the first listen. I started listening to the youtube video constantly, something I rarely do. I’ll post the link to the video below, so you can have the same introduction to this band as I had.
Two, the build-up of this track is just… It hits me in every fiber of my being. I can just feel everything. It’s hard to explain what this actually means, but It just a certain aspect of me and connects with it on a different level.
Last but not least, it’s the one track I always turn to if I don’t have enough time for a whole album. I can always listen to this track, under any circumstance. It’s always good, always appropriate to listen to. Not a lot of tracks can say that.
Now go listen to it. Somewhere, somehow. If this was a world full of me’s, this album would be selling like Adele’s 25. But it’s not, so order it, download it, go see these guys live, buy some merch, anything to get these guys to make it big. Because they deserve it.
