I love this little EP. I felt like it has gone a little under the radar when it was released last October, so I wanted to give it the attention it deserved.
Kacy Hill was a model before she started as a recording artist, most notably known for some American Apparel ads that left little to the imagination. If you think this is a just a cash-in though, you are very mistaken.
There’s a lot going on in these 3 songs (plus 2 remixes). There are hints of James Blake in foreign fields, the instrumentalin Arm’s Length reminds me of Florence, with the difference being that Kacy doesn’t have the range miss Welch has. It feels like she’s not sure what her style is yet, and is experimenting with various styles and sounds. I’m very excited which road she will take once we get a full release, because the potential is obviously here.
My favourite track is Foreign Fields. I’m just a sucker for that kind of thumping bassline. Plus, her vocal style is really suited for this kind of music. I know it sounds eerily similar to James Blake, but hey, when was that ever a bad thing.
All and all, a promising first release from a promising young artist.
